This American Classic was created by Charles “Chuck” Beam in 1975 during his 22 year tenure at Four Roses. However in the late 80’s, when mullets and mustaches were a common and welcomed sight, Eagle Rare was sold to George T. Stagg Distillery, now known as Buffalo Trace. They took, what was originally, a 101 proof bourbon and pulled it back a bit to 90 proof. It makes it a little less sharp and allows the toffee, hints of orange peel and honey to truly shine. It’s also one of the few bourbons that has maintained it’s 10 year age statement despite the fading trend. Just like America, this bad boy has consistently been winning awards since it was created, and nothing has changed. Treat yourselves, America.

We welcome y’all back with Rowan’s Creek as our whiskey of the week for $6 all week!

Named for the creek that runs through the Willet distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, which is fed by limestone filtered spring water, and regarded as some of the best water in America for producing whiskey. It’s a part of Willet’s boutique small batch collection along with its sister bourbon, Noah’s Mill. The Willet name goes back to the beginnings of bourbon and the beginnings of Kentucky. They’ve been making highly touted bourbons since the early 19th century, and Rowan’s Creek is no different. Although it seems to have a high rye content, some speculate up to 25%, it is smooth with sweet notes of vanilla and caramel up front and finishes with flavors of oak and subtle spices.
